Cold, Severe Weather for Northeast, Strong Winds and Fire Risk in Central US

Cold front and thunderstorms over Eastern US

Thunderstorms will blanket half the nation on Wednesday, from the east-central US to the Atlantic. A cold front will move in, bringing light snow to some areas and severe weather.

A strong cold front will push into the Northeast, as well as over the Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys, and will bring the risk of strong-to-severe storms, Fox reported. Colder air from Canada will also move over the Great Lakes region, changing from rain to light snow overnight. As the storm crosses Lake Erie and Lake Huron, it’s likely to bring snow to Northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania, WKBN reported.

Severe thunderstorms

In the Northeast, severe thunderstorms overnight, likely beginning early Thursday and continuing through the evening hours of the Atlantic coast from Wilmington, North Carolina, all the way to Burlington, New York. The storm will affect coastal and inland areas of North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont. Intense downpours in urban flooding are possible and isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

In the South, The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued a Level 2 severe weather risk over northeastern Louisiana, southern central and eastern Arkansas, central and northern Mississippi, west-central and northwestern Alabama, and western and central Tennessee. A significant risk of large-scale, strong winds and isolated tornadoes.

Flooding rain coming to Northeast Thurs/Fri

Thunderstorms move farther over the Northeast on Thursday into Friday, with heavy downpours bringing potential flooding rain over portions of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine on Thursday, and over central and eastern Maine on Friday, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Hard freeze warning: south-central Colorado.

Freeze/frost morning: southeastern Idaho.

Tropical Storm Karl forms in the Gulf

Tropical Storm Karl, the 11th named storm of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season, has formed in the Southwest Gulf of Mexico and will produce flooding rain in Mexico over the coming days. However, the storm will pose no threat to the United States or US Gulf Coast, the Weather Channel reported.
