Here are the latest weather alerts from the National Weather Service (NWS) for Friday.

High wind warning: southeastern Wyoming and western Nebraska; northern and eastern Maine.

Wind advisory: northeastern Montana; northern, central, and western Maine.

Small craft advisory: Entire Atlantic coast from Central Florida to Maine.

Storm warning: southeastern Maine.

High surf advisory: The coasts of Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

Frost advisory: northeastern and southeastern New York; southern Vermont.

Tropical Depression Nine forms, may reach Florida next Wednesday

Tropical Depression Nine formed in the Atlantic on Friday in the central Caribbean Sea north of Aruba and is expected to reach Florida next Wednesday.

The storm is expected to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane sometime late Sunday or early Monday as it passes Jamaica and moves toward Cuba, NBC reported. The storm is projected to further strengthen as it passes over Cuba, reaching Category 3 major hurricane strength. Current forecast estimates show the storm making landfall in the Gulf on Wednesday, roughly halfway between Tampa and Miami on Florida’s western coastline.

Fiona pummels Bermuda, may become biggest storm ever to hit Canada on Saturday

Hurricane Fiona, now a Category 4 storm, pummeled Bermuda with intense winds on Friday morning, leaving 70% of the island without power, ABC reported.

Fiona is now headed toward northeastern Canada and could be the strongest storm to ever hit the country. The storm is expected to slightly weaken to a Category 3 before making landfall in Nova Scotia on Saturday. Hurricane warnings are in effect for Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Power outages, coastal flooding, and widespread damage are possible. Officials have warned residents to prepare, BBC reported.

Friday: Scattered thunderstorms, Fiona to impact East Coast

Although Hurricane Fiona is well east of the US mainland, its impact will be felt from Florida to Maine along the East Coast (see alerts above).

Maine will feel the impact of Hurricane Fiona in the form of strong wind gusts up to 50 mph, high surf, and rain. Power outages are possible, WGME reported.

Scattered thunderstorms over three regions: In the Southwest, over portions of southeastern California, central and southern Arizona, and west-central New Mexico. In the Gulf, along the southern Texas coast, as well as central and southern Florida. In the upper Midwest, over portions of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.

Rain in the Midwest over portions of Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota. In the West, rain over northwestern Washington.

Saturday: Fiona to impact Maine, scattered thunderstorms

More strong winds in Maine courtesy of Hurricane Fiona, could reach up to 60 mph and cause power outages, along with continued rain.

Scattered thunderstorms possible. In the Southwest, over southern and eastern Arizona into western and central New Mexico, as well as southern Texas. In the South, over portions of Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, most of Tennessee, Kentucky, and the southern areas of Illinois and Indiana. Over the upper Midwest and Ohio Valley for portions of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and into the western regions of Pennsylvania and New York. Thunderstorms also possible over central and southern Florida.

Sunday: Widespread thunderstorms in the East

Widespread thunderstorms in the eastern half of the country beyond the Mississippi over much of the South, mid-South, Ohio Valley, mid-Atlantic, and Northeast, as well as portions of the upper Midwest over Minnesota and Wisconsin, and all of Michigan. In the Southwest, small areas of scattered thunderstorms over south-central Colorado, into north-central and south-central New Mexico, as well as southeastern Arizona.
