Multiple rounds of thunderstorms from west to east will bring the potential for heavy rain and the threat of flash flooding to numerous states this week.

On Tuesday, the flood threat will loom over California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico in the west. In the east, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, and Tennessee are all at risk.

NWS flood alerts for Tuesday

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued the following flood-related alerts for Tuesday:

Flood watch: southeastern California and deserts; southern Nevada; southern and southeastern Utah; Arizona; western, central, and northern New Mexico; central and southern Indiana; southern Ohio; southern, western, and central West Virginia; southwestern Virginia.

Flash flood warning: eastern Missouri; west central and southern Illinois; eastern Kentucky; north central and northern California.

Flooding threat continues on Wednesday and Thursday

The threat continues on Wednesday expanding to include Pennsylvania and North Carolina, while on Thursday, the threat will add Wyoming, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, as well as several states in the South including Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia, according to the forecast by the National Weather Service (NWS).

St. Louis sees historic rainfall with widespread flash flooding and forcing rescues,

St. Louis had over 8 inches of rain from midnight through 7 AM Tuesday morning, breaking the city’s all-time one-day record of 6.85 inches set in 1915, according to a tweet by the National Weather Service. Heavy rain between 6-10 inches fell throughout the wider St. Louis area leading to flash flooding, closing roads, submerging vehicles, and necessitating the rescues of residents from their homes, CNN  reported.

More human remains discovered at Lake Mead as water level continues to recede

In the drought-stricken West, the water level at Lake Mead continues to recede. On Monday, the National Park Service announced it was investigating another report of human remains found at Lake Mead, after receiving a witness report of remains spotted in a recreation area called Swim Beach, CBS reported.

Excessive heat warning: central and western Washington; northern Idaho; northwest, northern, central, and southwestern Oregon; northern California; north-central, northeastern, central, and eastern Oklahoma; northwestern Arkansas.

Heat advisory for portions of Washington, Idaho, Oregon, California, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi.
