A dangerous heat wave continues, expanding into additional parts of the country as it moves across the South, Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast. Many areas will see 90+ degree temperatures with a heat index into triple digits, AccuWeather and the Daily Voice reported. Some areas are expected to challenge historical records, and many regions will see the highest temperatures of the year so far, during this week and the next.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the following heat-related alerts for Tuesday:

Excessive heat warning: central and south-central California; northern Arizona; Oklahoma; central, southern, and eastern Texas; Arkansas; northern Louisiana; northwestern Mississippi, and western Tennessee.

Heat advisory for portions of New Mexico, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.

Severe weather and storm outlook

Scattered thunderstorms over parts of the Southwest, upper Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Northwest, as well as solid storm cover for most of the South and Southeast.

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued a Level 2 severe weather risk over the upper Midwest to include portions of northern and East-central Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, and northern Michigan.

A marginal risk of severe weather is possible in the upper Midwest over portions of North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan, as well as parts of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. To the south, a marginal risk is present over portions of Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the following storm-related alerts for Tuesday:

High wind warning: eastern Montana; northwestern South Dakota.

Wind advisory: eastern Montana, southern North Dakota; northern, western, and central South Dakota.

Flash flood warning: northeastern Alabama.

Flood advisory: northeastern Alabama; western South Dakota.
