Significant Severe Weather Threat Over the South, Plus Dangerous Heat Wave

At least 7 states in the South are under a severe weather threat on Friday. There is also a flood threat in the South and Pacific Northwest, while 7 Western states are under heat alerts as dangerous temperatures will continue into next week.

Severe weather threat over the South, flood warnings

Thunderstorms will span from the upper Midwest and Great Lakes region, southward into the Gulf regions and Florida. Heavy rain will bring a significant chance of flooding. Storms with damaging winds and hail are expected at the start of the afternoon and will subside by late afternoon, the Weather Channel reported.

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued a Level 2 severe weather risk over Eastern Texas, central and southern Arkansas, most of Louisiana and Mississippi, into southwestern Alabama, and the Western Florida Panhandle.

An enhanced Level 3 severe weather risk management was issued over southern Arkansas, northern and southeastern Louisiana, into Eastern and Central Mississippi.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe thunderstorm watch over eastern Texas, southern Arkansas, northern and central Louisiana, into western and central Mississippi, as well as a severe thunderstorm warning over northeastern Louisiana into west-central Mississippi.

Flood alerts

The NWS has issued a flood watch for Southern Arkansas, as well as a warning of heavy rain with the potential for flash flooding over eastern Oklahoma into northwestern, western, central, and southern Arkansas.

Heavy rain and flood warnings for Pacific Northwest

The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning of heavy rain and has issued a flood watch in the Pacific Northwest for Friday to include northwest, eastern and southeast Washington, northeast Oregon, and northern and central Idaho, into western Montana. The NWS has also issued a hydrologic outlook, which warns of potential flooding of streams, creeks, and rivers, over large portions of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.

Dangerous heat wave for West, Southwest Friday through next week

Excessive heat warnings have been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) over much of California and Arizona, as well as Southern Nevada. Heat advisories have also been issued for California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas.

Record temperatures could be set on Friday, and even more as temperatures spike further over the weekend, the Weather Channel reports, and then the high temperatures will push eastward next week bringing triple digits to some areas.
