Severe Weather on Tuesday for Plains and South, Stormy Week Ahead

Severe weather on separate fronts over the Midwest and the South on Tuesday as thunderstorms hover over two-thirds of the nation continuing into Wednesday, with more strong storms in the Midwest on Thursday.

Damaging weather risk on Tuesday over Midwest, South

Thunderstorms stretch over two-thirds of the country on Tuesday, with the strongest activity over the nation’s midsection, especially over the central plains and western areas of the South.

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued an enhanced Level 3 severe weather risk over western and southern Nebraska into northern Kansas.

A Level 3 Severe Weather Risk is defined as numerous, widespread severe, and intense storms with likely significant wind damage, large hail between 1-2 inches, and a few isolated tornadoes.

A Level 2 severe weather risk over eastern Wyoming, southwestern South Dakota, Nebraska, eastern Colorado, Kansas, western Oklahoma, and northern Texas.

On a separate front to the south, a Level 2 severe weather risk over southeastern Oklahoma, central and northern Arkansas, southeastern Missouri, northwestern Mississippi, western Tennessee, and southwestern Kentucky.

Storm and flood alerts

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued the following flood and storm alerts for Tuesday.

Severe thunderstorm watch: eastern Oklahoma; western Arkansas; eastern Texas; northern Louisiana.

Flash flood warning: central Oklahoma.

Flood warning: central and eastern Oklahoma; northwestern Arkansas.

A look ahead for the week

Stormy weather is going to continue over a good portion of the country throughout the rest of the week through a series of disturbances, the Weather Channel reported.

On Wednesday, strong thunderstorms stretch from the Southwest into the Ohio Valley and parts of the Southeast.

On Thursday, the severe storms return to the Plains with a Level 2 threat over Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma.

Dangerous heat continues throughout the week

Above-average temperatures for much of the country have already kicked off in the first week of June and will continue throughout the week into next. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued the following heat alerts for Tuesday:

Excessive heat warning: Northern Arizona.

Excessive heat watch: Southeastern California; Southern Nevada; Northwestern, southeastern, southwestern, and central Arizona.

Heat advisory: Southeastern New Mexico; western and southern Texas.

Shipwrecks fueling dangerous explosion of jellyfish off Hawaii

Researchers have solved the mystery of what was causing the explosive growth of dangerous box jellyfish populations off of Waikiki. Researchers now say that shipwrecks off Hawaii have created artificial reefs that are benefiting jellyfish and leading to a growth in population, the Weather Channel reported.
