Louisiana family, girl, survives after tornado lifts their house and drops it on another street
It was a real-life “Wizard of Oz” moment when a tornado tore through a New Orleans suburb on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, lifting one house into the air and spinning it around, then dropping it in the middle of a street with the family still inside.
One of the occupants was a girl on a ventilator who suffers from muscular dystrophy.
In the darkness, as the tornado came ripping through, the girl’s mother, Dea Castellanos, was in the living room when the entire house began spinning, the Associated Press reported. The woman said she could feel the entire house make a full rotation.
The family members were tossed about in the house and the woman wound up in a bedroom.
The house itself was ripped off of its foundation, carried through the air some thirty feet from its original lot, and dropped down in the middle of a street.
Witnesses say that immediately after the event, the family was trapped inside. One witness, who called 911, saw the girl’s father trying to reach his daughter, the HuffPost reported.
“They were screaming,” the witness said. “His wife was hysterical. They were already traumatized from taking that ‘Wizard of Oz’ ride.”
“All the men in the neighborhood ran to the house,” the witness continued, adding that firefighters arrived quickly and carried the girl out in a blanket.
St. Bernard Parish President Guy McInnis said the girl is in a hospital and ‘doing fine.’
Texas teen survives after tornado spins and flips truck, drives away
Over 25 tornadoes touched down in Texas on Monday, March 21, 2022, and as one ripped through Elgin, Texas, a witness captured a shocking sight on video that immediately went viral: A red pickup being spun and flipped around in the tornado.
Huge pieces of debris are flying everywhere, caught up in the whirlwind along with the pickup truck.
The truck was tossed around, then miraculously flipped back on its wheels and the driver then drove away from the harrowing ordeal.
Although the driver narrowly and miraculously escaped, the twister continued to wreak havoc, knocking down trees and power lines along the road.
Mystery driver identified
Now, three days after the event, the mystery driver came forward. He is a 16-year-old junior at IDEA Rundberg High School.
“Seeing the video, I’m like that’s me in there and I could have not been here, but thank God I am,” Riley Leon told Fox 7 Austin. “That’s me inside of the truck spinning around. I survived that.”
The reporter asked the teenager how he was doing.
“Physically and health, I’m doing good,” Leon said. “Still shocked honestly by what happened but like I said to multiple reports, we have to keep going on ’cause life, life keeps going on and we cannot let ourselves get down because of a single problem.”
